Labo Puzzle and What It Pays

Quick answer

Labo Puzzle sits between the Melody Cake and the Poster Studio in the Creative Labo and pays coins, stickers or tools. It is the only place in town that hands tools over directly, and the fastest coin loop without a board run.

Labo Puzzle is the third thing in the Creative Labo, between the Melody Cake at the left end and the Poster Studio at the right. It is the only machine in town that pays coins, stickers or tools directly, which makes it the most practical of the three.

What it is for

Pays outWhy it matters
CoinsThe shopping currency, without a board run
StickersCollection progress without a mini-game
ToolsThe inventory items — the only direct source in town

The other two Labo stations are creative: you make music or pictures. Labo Puzzle is the one that feeds the rest of the game. If you are short of coins and do not want to start a board, this is the shortest loop available.

The inventory it feeds

The tools it can hand out are the five in the Game Pad's inventory, left to right:

SlotTool
1Watering Can
2Shovel
3Fishing Rod
4Fruit Basket
5Bug Net

Each tool has an ability gauge, shown at the bottom right of the inventory screen. As the level rises, the gauge fills. Getting a tool from the puzzle is one way that level moves; using the tool in the world is the other.

Where to find it

Creative Labo is one of the six Hometown facilities, and the number of usable facilities grows as you progress — so the Labo may not be open on your very first walk. Once inside, Labo Puzzle sits between the other two stations rather than at either end.

That position is also why it is easy to walk past. The Melody Cake is the thing you see first on the left and the Poster Studio is the thing you see first on the right; the puzzle is the middle.

How to use it well

  • Treat it as the coin tap. A board run pays more, but it costs a session; Labo Puzzle pays in minutes, which is what you want when you are 20 coins short of a shirt.
  • Take the tools when they are offered. Tools are the bottleneck on the Sky Farm, and this is the only place that hands them over directly.
  • Do not ignore the stickers. The puzzle is a legitimate second source, and stickers have no shop.

The Creative Labo as a loop

The three stations are designed to feed each other:

  1. Labo Puzzle pays coins, stickers and tools.
  2. Melody Cake turns those into a piece of music, saved in one of 4 catalogs of 16.
  3. Poster Studio turns the music into the soundtrack of a 16-page animation.

The link between 2 and 3 is fixed: Sketchbook 1 plays Cake 1, and so on through the four books. So the Labo is not three mini-games; it is a small production line with a puzzle machine funding it.

What it does not do

It does not unlock facilities, it does not affect friendship, and it does not gate any board. Everything it gives you is optional progress — which is why it is a good evening activity when you do not want to commit to a board run.

The music station is on melody cake, the drawing station on poster studio, and the tool economy it feeds is on Sky Farm and tools.
